One of the things I’m always thankful for is when my muse hits me with the gift of creativity. From a young age there have been 2 things that I've always identified myself as, an athlete and an artist. Even as kid I loved creating things. When I was little I would draw, paint, and enjoyed doing various other craft projects.
In high school I took art for all four years at most years I was able to take at least two periods of art. I had an amazing teacher and miss her like crazy. Mrs. Linda Smith was one of those teachers who just simply got me. I wasn’t one of her “star” students, but she helped me learn more about different techniques, composition, and introduced me to a variety of mediums. Funny thing is, they didn’t offer photography, or I would have jumped at the chance to take that too. But I did learn a LOT from Mrs. Smith about painting and drawing. Sadly, she passed away the summer after I graduated but she had a major impact on my life.
Even at Dragon Con I've been fortunate enough to learn some other really cool stuff including how to sculpt leather masks and create resin sculptures. Art has always been a huge part of my life and I'm thankful that it gives me a way to speak to the world when words fail me.
Photography is my primary medium but it's the only one I enjoy experimenting with other mediums and finding ways to combine them. When I went to CPS training in December 2014, I met Sam Rapier and he introduced me to a wide variety of different techniques and rekindled the artistic spark. He is the one who has encouragement and inspired me to try to new things and see where it takes me. Granted, not all my experiments work out the way I want but it’s still fun.
